This exhibit explains how important Water is and how to conserve it. it shows the Water cycle including Absorption, evaporation, precipitation Pond are important because they maintain a Delicate balance of light temperature and nutirents Home to many kinds of plants and living things like Insects, Algae, Bacteria, Fish reptiles and amphibians They discusses how Beavers are Natures wetland engineers. Beaver dams slow and spread water allowing the ground to act as a sponge slowly releasing water throughout the year. Dams creat ponds upstream creating habitat for many species including Dragonflies, Water striders, Diving beetles, Mosquitoes, Diatoms, Water fleas, Copepods. Woodlands filter water runoff, capture sediment detrimental to ponds and the Trees cool the water. Forests provide 75% of the food available in these waters. Swamps have woody plants like dogwoods and pussy willows. Marshes are grassy wetlands with lots of cattails. They both act a sreservoirs, soaking up flood waters for storage. Bog are like ponds, but Doesn't move much, very little oxygen in the water, bacteria cant break down dead plants and animals, making nutrients hard to come by. Dead plants build up creating layers of peat that date back thousands of years. The have Acid water. Inhabitance include Frogs, Shrews, Birds nests, Sphagnum moss, Sundew, Pitcher plant and Bladderwort.
